Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police: Working Together In March 2015, Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police signed a formal agreement to work together to best serve the residents of the three counties.
Thanks to the hard work of officers and staff, successful collaborations have been delivered in some critical areas, such as operational planning, Roads Policing, Alcohol Licensing and Evidential Property.
There is also continuing alignment between key business support functions such as Finance, People, Information Management, Business Change, Fleet Services and ICT.
The region’s Commissioners and Chief Constables meet regularly to discuss how they can work together more closely for the benefit of the public and to discuss national initiatives at a regional approach.
The South West Policing Regional Collaboration Programme covers five forces, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Avon & Somerset and Devon & Cornwall. The meetings are jointly chaired by Commissioners on a rotating basis.
Dorset is a participant in a number of collaborations within the South West, including a regional organised crime unit, as well as regionalised forensics and procurement services.
The Home Office is leading a cross Government programme to deliver the new Emergency Services Network (ESN) critical communications system.
This will replace the current Airwave service used by the emergency services in Great Britain. The strategic aim of the ESN is to deliver a much better voice and data service to the emergency services. ESN will enhance services mobile working, especially in remote areas and at times of network congestion.
Our national collaborations include a series of specific initiatives such as National Police Air Service (NPAS), which provides air support to policing across England and Wales, and the Police ICT Company - a company controlled by the police and commissioners to support and enable policing to make the best use of technology to deliver efficient
and effective policing and improve public safety.
Emergency services across the South West work closely together at both strategic and operational levels.
A significant number of local collaborations exist within Dorset – these range from education and awareness campaigns to shared estates to multi-agency personnel deployed within communities.
Operational commanders collaborate closely with their colleagues in fire and rescue services to identify new opportunities that will benefit efficiency and effectiveness and enhance the service that can be provided to our communities.
The Force also works closely with emergency services, local authorities, NHS and social care trusts across a range of areas to help keep communities safe and improve the lives of residents. This includes health and wellbeing boards, community safety partnerships and being a member of the Local Resilience Forum to help plan and respond to major and critical incidents. More recently the Force has formed a partnership agreement with local partners for the planned go live of phase one of Right Care Right Person.
