The commencing salary will be within Grade 4 starting at £19,719 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £21,837 per annum.


Description Interview Summarising Supervisor

To supervise a team of Interview Summarisers who summarise interviews whilst recording pertinent and salient points such as admissions, denials, provocation and mitigating circumstances that provides evidence for which a defendant has been charged. To ensure that documents are accurately word processed for submission with relevant case papers in line with Force timeliness standards. To provide ISU cover in the absence of the Admin Services Manager.  To provide administrative transcription duties in connection with internal confidential matters requiring the exercise of complete confidentiality.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Manage, support and supervise Interview Summarisers to include management of leave, sickness, welfare, discipline performance and associated matters;
  • Induct and train new staff joining the Unit to the required standard;
  • Liaise with staff and other departments regarding work queries to ensure quality work is produced within required timescales;
  • Provide cover in the absence of ISU Supervisor in other location;
  • Report on the quality of service performance to the Admin Services Manager;
  • Produce and interpret performance statistics;
  • Co-ordinate attendance of ISU staff to bespoke TRiM awareness training (D&C);
  • Co-ordinate optional attendance of ISU staff at Health Surveillance appointments (Dorset);
  • Arrange section/unit meetings;
  • Chair section meetings;
  • Represent Admin Services Department at relevant meetings;
  • Supervise staff who deal with disturbing casework material in the form of listening to interviews and reading material with distressing content and undertake risk assessments as appropriate;
  • Carry out other duties that are commensurate with the grade of post;
  • Summarise interviews for volume crime and provide exhibiting statements;
  • Fully transcribe interviews for major crime/incidents.

In addition there are some functions that are intrinsic to this role. An employer’s duty of care and current legislation allows the Force to establish if a potential applicant could carry them out, either with or without reasonable adjustments.  These functions are:

  • Working with Disturbing Evidence of Disturbing Circumstances

To assist in ensuring applicants would be able to undertake these functions of the role, it will be necessary for candidates who are made a conditional offer of employment to complete a medical questionnaire. In some cases, a medical assessment of the information provided in that questionnaire will be undertaken.
