The training programme to become a PCSO with Dorset consists of classroom based training followed by a period with a PCSO tutor in the workplace.

The classroom phase consists of 9 weeks training which takes place at either Bournemouth or Force Headquarters training centres. The training covers law and procedure relevant to the role as well as community engagement, safer neighborhood policing, personal safety and first aid. The training is blend of theory and practical, giving ample opportunity to put what you have learnt into practice.

On successful completion of this initial phase you will then move into the workplace where you will be tutored for a further 4 weeks. During this period you will be working at your designated station alongside a dedicated tutor who will support and guide you as you learn the role. You will also complete a portfolio that outlines the skills that you will need to demonstrate during your time with your tutor. Then at 6 and 12 months service you will attend further periods of training to build on the experience you have gained to date.
