Dorset Police is pleased to see the 2022 Gender Pay Gap report has shown an improvement in the Officer mean pay gap, down from 6.27 per cent to 5.99 per cent. Overall, which includes officers and police staff, the mean pay gap decreased from 12.70 per cent to 11.89 per cent.
The gender pay gap shows the difference in average earnings between women and men when comparing those in lower-paid roles and those in higher-paid positions. It is not about equal pay.
The Force is proud to witness its solid foundation of a holistic approach to fairness and inclusion in policing, evidenced by the positive outcomes within the report.
Continuing with the three key areas of the Force's annual delivery plan: Achieving Representation, Creating an Inclusive Environment and Helping Women to Achieve their Potential, Dorset Police continues to see more women joining the Force. The Force supports this growth through a solid commitment to supporting women to progress in their careers, coupled with a keen focus on plans to ensure a fair working environment.
With the ever-changing, complex world of modern policing, it is essential to welcome women who bring a vast sphere of knowledge, skills and mindsets that complement policing today and reflects the communities we serve.
This progress is a valuable step in the right direction as the Force provides a supportive and increasingly inclusive environment where women can thrive in their careers.
Our Positive Action strategy is in its fourth year. It is encouraging to witness the outstanding elements within the strategy delivering strong objectives and strengthening the Force's position as a preferred, inclusive organisation.
Dorset Police promotes inclusivity through staff support groups and networks, leadership development, and keeping health and wellbeing at the organisation's heart and continues exploring more ways to support this essential value.
The Force looks forward to the coming year as more women join, and we continue to support them as they develop their careers with the full support of Dorset Police.
