Suspected offender Dean Goodwin charged
Detectives from Dorset Police and Hampshire Constabulary have charged a man with eleven offences, including attempted murder and five counts of rape.
For four days officers from Dorset Police searched for Dean Goodwin, a 32-year-old Poole man, throughout the Bournemouth and Poole area.
Goodwin was wanted on suspicion of committing a serious sexual assault against a woman in her twenties at an address in Poole in the early hours of Friday 23 November 2012.
Dean Goodwin was arrested by armed police at around 5.45pm yesterday, Tuesday 27 November 2012, in Poole.
Tonight, Wednesday 28 November 2012, he has been charged with eleven offences.
Dorset investigators have charged Goodwin with four counts of rape and one count of false imprisonment. He has also been charged in connection with a dwelling burglary in Wimborne and a commercial burglary in the Wallisdown area of Poole.
Goodwin has also been charged with attempted murder, rape, robbery and sexual assault. These alleged incidents took place in Andover, Hampshire.
Goodwin will appear before Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning, Thursday 29 November 2012.
Detective Superintendent Mark Cooper, of Dorset’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Following a thorough investigation Dean Goodwin has been charged.
“I would like to stress and remind members of the media that – as is typical in such circumstances – it would be entirely inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further ahead of the trial. It is vital that the justice system is allowed to follow its course.”
Julia Woodward, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service Wessex, said: “I have today authorised Dorset Police to charge Dean Goodwin, 32, from Dorset with four offences of rape and one of false imprisonment on a woman on 23 November 2012 in Poole and charges of rape, robbery and sexual assault of another woman on 26 November 2012, which is alleged to have taken place in Andover.
“I have also authorised Dorset Police to charge Dean Goodwin with an offence of burglary with dwelling and theft which occurred between 23 November and 26 November 2012 and an offence of burglary other than dwelling that occurred on 25 November 2012.
“Dean Goodwin has also been charged with an offence of attempted murder on one of the victims.
“I reached my decision after I carefully considered the evidence provided to me by the police and I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute Dean Goodwin with these offences. This decision was made in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.”
