Serious injury collision in Swanage

Police were called to a serious injury road traffic collision in Swanage today, Friday 5 June 2015.

The incident happened at around 2.41pm in Institute Road and involved a red Seat Ibiza being driven by a man from Wareham and four pedestrians.

The pedestrians, two men and two women, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries. One was airlifted from the scene and three were taken by ambulance to Poole Hospital.

Officers closed Institute Road and High Street while collision investigators carried out an examination of the scene. The road was re-opened at around 6pm.

The circumstances of the collision are under investigation and the driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, is assisting police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made.

Inspector Shawn Whitley, of Dorset Police, said: “I would like to issue a very big thank you to colleagues from HM Coastguard who were in the area at the time of the collision and helped officers at the scene with what was initially a very challenging situation.

“We are also grateful to the many members of the public who helped treat the injured and offered support to officers.”
