Police urge partygoers to keep their belongings safe

As the festive party season reaches full swing, Dorset Police are issuing a reminder to revellers and employees to take care of their valuables while out and about.

In particular they are urging women to keep their handbags and mobile phones secure following recent incidents where these were specifically targeted and stolen from partygoers.

Detective Constable Mark Fursman of Bournemouth and Poole CID said: “Please keep your valuables with you at all times.

“These are simple steps that can protect you from becoming a victim of crime. Think of the possible impact losing your mobile phone or the contents of your bag would have on you.

“Of course enjoy yourself this festive season, but I would strongly encourage you not to drink to excess and therefore become vulnerable to crimes such as this.”

A 48-year-old Bournemouth man has been charged with two counts of theft from a person.
