Police operation to tackle crime hotspots

An operation has been launched in Bournemouth and Poole to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in hotspot areas.

Operation Earth is a six-month pilot aimed at targeting neighbourhoods in the two towns which have traditionally experienced higher levels of crime and anti-social behaviour over the last three years.

The scheme will see Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) patrolling designated areas up to six times a day in:

  • Bournemouth town centre
  • Lansdowne
  • West Howe
  • Winton
  • Rossmore
  • Alderney
  • Canford Heath
  • Bourne Valley
  • Poole town centre
  • Hamworthy
  • Turlin Moor
  • Parkstone

Central Bournemouth Neighbourhood Inspector Heather Dixey said: “I would like to reassure residents that these patrols are not in response to any sudden or new increase in crime.

“It is an initiative which will give PCSOs an opportunity to engage with the public and offer reassurance to residents that we do take their concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour seriously.

“Anyone committing crime or behaving in an intimidating or anti-social manner is warned that they run a very high risk of getting caught. We have a wide range of powers that can be used to tackle anti-social behaviour.

“I would urge anyone with concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour in the county to please call Dorset Police in confidence on 101.”
