Murder investigation launched after Bournemouth victim dies

Dorset Police’s Major Crime Team have launched a murder investigation after the victim of yesterday’s attempted murder incident in Bournemouth died overnight.

At 4.12pm, Saturday 20 June 2015, officers were called to an address in Colehill Crescent.

A 25-year-old Bournemouth woman sustained serious stab wounds and was taken to Poole Hospital.

The victim sadly died at 3.28am this morning, Sunday 21 June 2015, from her injuries.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and the coroner notified. A post mortem examination is due to take place at around midday today, Sunday 21 June 2015.

The 26-year-old Bournemouth man, initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, has now been re- arrested on suspicion of murder and is helping police with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Mark Samuel, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Team, said: “A murder investigation is being managed by the Major Crime Investigation Team.

It is now believed that the alleged offender is known to the victim and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection to this incident.

“Additional police patrols will be taking place in the area to reassure the public and anyone with information that may help with our enquiries should contact Dorset Police.”

A cordon remains in place at the scene and is expected to remain there for some time while crime scene investigators continue to carry out examinations.
