More arrests after Bournemouth drug warrants

A further eleven people have been arrested in the Boscombe and Lansdowne areas of Bournemouth, following the second day of an intelligence-led operation to remove suspected drug dealers from the town.

As part of Operation Dismantle, warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 were executed at three different addresses throughout Bournemouth today, Thursday, 2 September 2010.

Nine men, aged between 23 and 44 and from Bournemouth and outside of the county, and two Bournemouth women, aged 23 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

The addresses were thoroughly searched by specially trained officers. A significant quantity of suspected stolen goods, drugs and cash were found as a result.

The activity follows 12 arrests made yesterday, Wednesday, 1 September 2010. This brings the total number of arrests to 23. (View news release and video from Wednesday 1 September 2010)

Eight of these men have since been charged with the supply of class A drugs.

The remaining arrested people continue to help police with their enquiries.

As part of the operation, social services attended an address as there was concern for a child’s welfare. Appropriate action was taken and one child was removed and taken to a place of safety.

Safer Neighbourhood Team officers have been liaising with local residents in order to reassure the community. There have also been high visibility patrols in affected areas.

Dorset Police will continue to work with partners, in alcohol, drug and other support organisations, to ensure support and rehabilitation for those people affected by alleged drug crime – including women made vulnerable from drug abuse and prostitution.

As part of the operation, Dorset Police is working closely with colleagues from the local Drugs Action Team and would encourage any drug users seeking help and advice to contact the Bournemouth Assessment Team on 01202 209463.

Anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
