Missing swimmer at Anvil Point

Dorset Police received a call from the Coastguard at around 3.25pm on Saturday 2 November 2013, reporting two swimmers in difficulties at Anvil Point, with one person trapped in a cave.

One of the swimmers, a 31-year-old man was airlifted to safety by the Coastguard rescue helicopter – he was not injured.

An in depth rescue operation was then carried out in an attempt to bring the second swimmer, a 30-year-old woman to dry land from inside a cave.

Despite the best efforts of the Coastguard rescue team, the search was abandoned due to the extreme weather conditions, and the female was not located and remains unaccounted for.

Dorset Police are currently liaising with the family, and continue to work with partner agencies.
