Force and PCC comment on blue light amalgamation

In light of local and national media coverage regarding blue light amalgamation, or merger, proposals, Dorset Police’s Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner have issued the following statement:

“The funding challenge facing Dorset Police has been well reported since the Comprehensive Spending Review 2013 and it is inevitable that additional, significant cuts will need to be made to the Force’s infrastructure and support services.

“During the Chancellor’s budget statement earlier this year, reference was made to the potential for future collaboration at a local level between blue light services.

“Such an approach – which was evident during the innovative working between Dorset agencies up to and during the Olympic Games – may help to identify efficiency savings.

“Dorset Police and the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner welcome all opportunities to explore different ways of working with partners to provide the best possible service to the public and the Force looks forward to further discussion regarding the proposals."
