Follow Student Officers through Training – Week 4 Roundup

Our new recruits have now finished their first month of training!

Some of the students comment on their time so far;

“The first month can be summed up as; feeling a sense of pride, pride at being attested and pride at working towards becoming a police officer.”

“It’s been great to become a part of Dorset Police and the first month of training has been challenging but exciting as our knowledge grows!”

This week the officers have been working on their P.E.A.C.E training, which stands for;

  • Planning & Preparation
  • Engage & Explain
  • Account/Clarification/Challenge
  • Closure
  • Evaluation

The first part of this course focuses on interviewing witnesses, including vulnerable, intimidated and juvenile witnesses. They will also learn how to take statements from witnesses and will take part in practical interview scenarios to prepare them for the endless different circumstances they may face as police officers.

The second part of the P.E.A.C.E course concentrates on interviewing suspects, which they will learn at a later stage in their training.

Next week the officers will learn their arrest powers which they will put into practise through practical scenarios.

More coming soon!
