Family tribute following fatal collision in Swanage
The 21-year-old man who died in a fatal collision in Swanage in the early hours of Tuesday 29 December 2015 has been named by his family.
Craig Downs, from Poole, sadly died when a black Ford Focus he was driving left the A351 Valley Road at Harmans Cross and collided with an electricity pole.
Craig died at the scene from his injuries.
His family have today, Wednesday 30 December 2015, issued the following statement: “Nothing can express our devastating loss.
“Craig was loved so much by everyone that knew him. He was a happy-go-lucky lad with the kindest heart.
“He will be greatly missed by his Mum, Dad, three sisters, two brothers and his beautiful daughter, nephew and niece and all his many friends and family.”
The A351 was closed in both directions between the B3069 and Crack Lane while emergency services dealt with the incident and collision investigators examined the scene.
Police Sergeant Dave Stroud, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision which happened at around 2.22am or who saw the Ford Focus being driven prior to the incident to please call me urgently.”
Due to the fact a marked police vehicle was in the vicinity of the Ford Focus at the time of the collision, the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 29:28. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
