Arrest after man found dead near Sturminster Newton

Police have made an arrest following the discovery of a man’s body at an address in Marnhull, near Sturminster Newton.

Officers attended the address in Ham Meadow, Marnhull, following a call from a member of the public in the evening on Friday 15 April 2011, where the body of a man was found.

A search of the area followed, involving armed officers, police dogs and the Force helicopter.

A short time later, a 23-year-old local man was arrested nearby in connection with the incident.

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the search.

Police have cordoned off the address while the incident, which is being treated as suspicious, is being investigated.

At this time, the deceased, believed to be in his sixties, has not been formally identified.

Detectives await the result of a forensic post-mortem to establish the cause of his death.

The coroner has been notified and next of kin have been informed.
