Alleged theft and dangerous driving in Lyme Regis
Detectives investigating an alleged theft of a motor vehicle from Merriott in Somerset are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.
The incident took place overnight between Friday 2 January 2015 and Saturday 3 January 2015. It was reported that a Ford Transit flatbed tipper had been stolen.
The vehicle was then seen in a car park opposite Bay View Road in Lyme Regis at 11.36pm on Saturday 3 January 2015, with two men seen walking away from the vehicle. These men returned a short while later in possession of a pedal cycle and made off in the Ford Transit from officers on their arrival.
Officers followed the vehicle through Up-Lyme, along the A35 Hunters Lodge, onto the B3165 through Marshwood and Broadoak, across the B3162 at Dottery Cross to Bradpole and then on to Loders, Uploaders, A35 west to the Texaco garage roundabout, through Bridport town centre to the A35, turning East down to the Crown roundabout, into West Bay Road, South Street, South View, before going off road along the riverbank to a locked gate at Priory Gardens.
Detective Sergeant Simon Austin, of Western CID, said: “I urge any witnesses to the manner of driving of the Ford Transit along the route at the time to come forward and contact police.
“Anyone with information that could assist my investigation should contact Dorset Police.”
A 23-year-old man from Bridport has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, failing to stop when required by an officer and motoring offences. He was due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5 January 2015.
