Alleged malicious fire at Sandford heathland

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a heath land in Sandford was reported to have been deliberately set on fire.

The incident happened not far from Sandford Middle School near to the old artillery placement at around 9.15pm on Wednesday, 16 March 2011.

Police Constable Nigel Belton, of Poole police, said: “I am appealing for anyone who was at or near this area at this time and witnessed anything out of the ordinary or anyone acting unusually.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to anyone acting suspiciously on the heath on the days leading up to Wednesday, 16 March 2011.”

A 43-year-old local man was arrested and has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.
