Alleged armed robbery in Poole - Further arrests

Detectives in Poole investigating an alleged armed robbery at a bank in the Broadstone area of the town have made two further arrests.

The incident happened at around 9.40am on Thursday 4 April 2013, at HSBC on Lower Blandford Road.

Officers received a report that a man entered the premises pointing a black handgun and demanding cash before leaving the scene on foot. It is believed he entered a red vehicle and drove off.

Officers at the scene were assisted by armed police, the police helicopter and dog units.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Detective Inspector Pete Little, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “Following extensive enquiries, I am now able to confirm we have arrested a further two men in connection with this alleged robbery.

“A 25-year-old Poole man was arrested at an address on Commercial Road in Poole yesterday, and he has now been released on bail.

“We can confirm that we have now arrested another two men we believe to be involved in this alleged robbery, aged 24 and 26, and both from the Poole area.

“We have also recovered an imitation firearm we believe was used in the incident.

“I can confirm at this time, we are not actively looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

“In order to reassure members of the public, we have increased patrols and deployed extra resources in the Broadstone area and they are likely to remain in place for the next couple of days.

“I am continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this alleged robbery take place, or has information about those responsible to contact police urgently.

“All calls will be treated in confidence.”

Update – man charged: A 26-year-old of no fixed abode has been charged with robbery and firearms offences and is due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday 6 April 2013.

Two other men, a 24-year-old from Poole and a 25-year-old from Poole, have been arrested in connection with the incident and have both been bailed pending further enquiries.
