Witness appeal following reported robbery in Weymouth

Detectives investigating a reported robbery in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At approximately 12.40pm on Sunday 6 October 2019 it is alleged that a man approached a woman on King Street and shouted abuse at her before hitting her face.

The victim – a local woman aged in her 30s – ran toward Park Street where the man reportedly chased her and took her purse from her handbag. The purse contained a quantity of cash and a bank card.

The man and woman were known to each other. 

A 42-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently assisting detectives with their enquiries.

Detective Constable Jeremy Cuff, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed the incident, or captured it on CCTV or dashcam footage, to get in touch.”
