Jail for robber who threatened to shoot staff at bookmakers

A robber who told staff at a Bournemouth bookmakers he had a gun and threatened to shoot them has been jailed for three years.

Errol Lloyd Brown, 47 and of Florence Road in Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 4 July 2019 after he pleaded guilty to robbery at a previous hearing.

At around 3.45pm on Friday 15 March 2019 a man entered Coral on Seamoor Road in the Westbourne area and approached a female cashier at the counter.

He handed her a note, which read ‘I have a gun, give me all the money’. The cashier refused and threw the note back.

The man then said: “I have a gun, I will shoot you.”

The cashier stepped away from the counter and the man reached over and took approximately £100 in cash from the till along with his note.

No weapon was seen during the incident.

CCTV was seized and still images of the suspect were circulated. An officer identified Brown and arrest attempts were made at his last known address.

On the evening of Wednesday 20 March 2019 Brown attended Bournemouth police station stating he was wanted. He was subsequently arrested. 

Detective Constable Clare Cassidy, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Errol Brown subjected the member of staff to what must have been a very frightening ordeal.

“These types of offences can have a significant and long-lasting impact on victims and we take them extremely seriously.”
