Witness appeal following serious injury collision near Beaminster

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following a serious injury collision near Beaminster.

At 2.30pm on Sunday 1 May 2016 a serious injury road traffic collision occurred on the A3066 at Whetley Cross.

A light blue and multi-coloured Suzuki motorcycle, being ridden by a 35-year-old man from Crewkerne, was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Polo being driven by a 54-year-old woman from France.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for treatment. He remains in a life-threatening condition in the Intensive Care Unit.  

The driver of the Polo sustained a minor injury to her hand. Her front seat passenger – a 56-year-old man also from France – was uninjured. 

The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

Police Constable Tim Gooding, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or the driving of either vehicle prior to the incident to please call me on 101.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw three blue motorcycles which were travelling from West Bay toward Beaminster around the time of the collision.”
