Witness appeal following reported sexual assault on Bournemouth beach

Detectives investigating a report of a sexual assault on Bournemouth beach are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

A woman aged in her 20s reported that she had been sitting talking to a man on the beach between the pier and the lifeguard hut between 3am and 4am today, Monday 18 June 2018, when he tried to kiss her and sexually assaulted her.

A 26-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Detective Constable Angela Chase, of Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out a detailed investigation into this incident and I am appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw or heard anything suspicious.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who spoke to a distressed woman in the area of the beach or the Lower Gardens in the early hours of this morning, particularly a man with a white hooded top who was reported to have spoken to the woman involved.”
