Public appeal following reported rape in Weymouth town centre

Detectives investigating a reported rape in Weymouth town centre are appealing for witnesses to come forward. 

At around 2am yesterday, Tuesday 1 November 2016, Dorset Police was called to a disturbance at an address in Great George Street.

Officers attended and it was reported that a woman had been raped by a man she had met that evening.

The victim – a local woman aged in her late teens – is being supported by specially-trained officers.

Detective Inspector Andrea Power, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am aware that there were a number of people in the area of Great George Street at the relevant time and I would urge anyone who saw a man and a woman, or has any information that may assist my investigation, to please contact Dorset Police.”

A 25-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until the beginning of January 2017.
