Witness appeal following reported assault in Wareham

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a reported assault on a man in Wareham.

Dorset Police was called at approximately 9pm yesterday, Tuesday 1 November 2016, to reports of an assault on a man outside the Red Lion pub in North Street.

It is alleged the victim – a local man aged in his 60s – was hit over the head with a golf club by another man.

He sustained a fractured skull and is receiving treatment in hospital. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

A 41-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm and is currently assisting officers with enquiries.

Detective Constable Adam Pilton, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in North Street at the time of the incident and witnessed what happened to please contact Dorset Police.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who saw a man carrying a golf club in the area at the relevant time.”
