Witness appeal after collision in Weymouth

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following a serious injury road traffic collision in Weymouth.

The incident happened at around 10.10am today, Monday 31 October 2016 on the A354 Weymouth relief road between the Jurassic roundabout and Veasta roundabout.

The collision was between a silver Dacia Duster and a black Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Ford - a 64-year-old man from Portland - was taken to Southampton Hospital by air ambulance with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The 66-year-old female driver of the Dacia was taken to Dorset County Hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for several hours to allow investigators to examine the scene and recovery for the vehicles.

Police Constable Stu Smith, of Dorset Police's Road Policing Team, said: "I am appealing for witnesses and anyone with information about the collision or the manner of driving of either vehicle before the incident to come forward.

"I would also like to thank motorists for their patience while the road was closed."
