A young schoolboy has died following a road traffic collision in Poole and officers are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward.
The incident happened at around 8.09am today, Wednesday 12 October 2016, in Sherborn Crescent in the Canford Heath area.
The seven-year-old boy was walking to school at the time of the collision. He was taken to Poole Hospital with critical injuries but sadly he passed away this afternoon. His family is being supported by specially trained officers.
The car involved was a silver Peugeot 107. No one else was injured in the incident.
The road was closed at the junctions with Seatown Close, Henbury Close and Chetnole Close while emergency services dealt with the scene.
Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police’s Road Policing Team, said: “It is with great sadness I inform you that the boy involved in the collision this morning has died. Our thoughts are with his family.
“Officers are continuing to liaise with local schools to give reassurances and to offer assistance at this difficult time.
“There were a number of people in the area at the time of the collision and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, and has not yet spoken to police, to please contact us as soon as possible.”
