Witness appeal after Weymouth assault

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Weymouth.

A 25-year-old local man was walking along the Esplanade near to HSBC when he accidently bumped into another man. He apologised and started walking toward Marks & Spencer when he was hit in the face with an unknown blunt item.

The victim suffered a serious injury to his eye, which requires ongoing treatment at Bournemouth Hospital.

The incident happened sometime between 11pm on Tuesday 16 August and 1am on Wednesday 17 August 2016.

Detective Constable James Batty, of Weymouth CID, said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident or has any further information that may assist with my investigation to please contact me.
