Reported theft of lead from Bournemouth museum - man charged

A man has appeared in court following alleged theft of lead from Bournemouth museum.

Dorset Police was called at 2.18am on Thursday 13 August 2020 to reports of a person on the roof of the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum on East Cliff. Officers attended and discovered that a large amount of lead had been stripped from the roof.

A 21-year-old man from Poole was arrested nearby and has been charged with theft in relation to the incident at Russell-Cotes. He has also been charged with two counts of theft of a pedal cycle and two counts of theft from a shop in relation to other matters.

He appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 14 August 2020 and is next due appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 24 September 2020.
