Witness appeal following alleged sexual assault in Christchurch

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an alleged sexual assault on a woman in Christchurch.

At around 6.40am today, Sunday 10 July 2016, it was reported that a woman was approached from behind by a man on Barrack Road in the town, outside the Stourvale pub.

The victim - a local woman aged in her 30s - was not physically injured.

Officers have this morning been searching the Christchurch area and an 18-year-old man has been arrested. He is currently assisting officers with enquiries. 

Detective Inspector Andrew Dilworth, of Bournemouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw a man acting suspiciously in the area at the relevant time, to please contact Dorset Police.

“Officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area over the coming days to reassure the community.”
