The primary role of PCSOs is to contribute to the policing of neighbourhoods by forming an integral part of your local Neighbourhood Policing Team, along with regular officers.

They are designated with various powers ranging from the removal of abandoned vehicles to issuing fixed penalty notices. PCSOs do not have the power of arrest; they deal with low-level crime, anti-social behaviour and conduct duties which do not require the powers of a police officer.

You can recognise PCSOs apart from regular police officers as they wear blue shirts instead of black, their hats have blue and white features with square badges and male PCSOs wear flat peaked caps instead of helmets. PCSOuniforms are also clearly marked as ‘Police Community Support Officer’ on the front and back.
