Dorset Police Transport Department is committed to providing and managing vehicles and equipment that meet the operational needs of the Force. Key resource strategies are in place to ensure that the right people, equipment and vehicles are in the right place at the right time.
The Transport department have three centres of operation strategically placed to service demand.
- Winfrith HQ – Fleet Management
- Ferndown HQ – Vehicle Maintenance
- Weymouth HQ – Vehicle Maintenance
The Transport department is responsible for the repair, maintenance and management of approximately 450 vehicles plus associated equipment.
Our fleet travel approximately 7.5 million miles per year (which works out to more than 20,000 miles a day!) and uses in excess of 958,000 litres of fuel per year.
Over 20 manufacturers supply vehicles to the Force, although only two or three supply 80% of the vehicles in any specific role. 85% percent of the fleet are diesel-powered vehicles.
