Accessing Information - About Incidents & Other People
Before requesting any information from Dorset Police, It is important to remember that depending on the nature and type of information you require, certain charges can apply.

Information concerning a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) can be requested from Dorset Police, once any investigations and proceedings have concluded.

Limited details of other party involved in RTC
Information and limited particulars of another party involved in the RTC can be requested by the following;
- Legal Representative
- Insurance Company
- Loss Adjusters

Photographs from RTC
Photographs concerning a Road Traffic Collision (RTC), can be requested from the Civil Disclosure Unit of Dorset Police once a collision abstract has been supplied.
What is a Collision Abstract?
A collision abstract is a summary of all documentation considered appropriate for release, which is then provided following the conclusion of a Road Traffic Collision investigation.
Collision Investigation
Can be requested from the Civil Disclosure Unit of Dorset Police, only once a collision abstract has been supplied.
Vehicle Examination
Can be requested from the Civil Disclosure Unit of Dorset Police, only once a collision abstract has been supplied.
Requests for Interviews with Police Officers, relating to Civil matters
Copy of Interview Tape or CD, where you (the Individual) are the subject of the Interview
In cases where you have been Interviewed by Dorset Police, as a result of being charged or reported then a copy of your Interview CD or Tape will be released at the time.
If this is not the case and you would like to request a copy of your Interview CD or Tape, you will need to make a Subject Access Request to the Data Protection Office of Dorset Police.
In some circumstances, a copy of your Interview tape may be available as part of much wider disclosure directed by a Court Order. This is purely judged on a case-by-case basis
All Court Order requests must be directed to the Force Disclosure Unit.
Interview with Police Officer for Civil Purposes
Requests for Interviews with Police Officers, relating to Civil matters will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be directed to the Civil Disclosure Unit at Dorset Police.

Copies of interviews, where another individual or third party are the subject of the interview may only be requested by way of a Court Order, and should be directed to the Force Disclosure Unit of Dorset Police.

Copies of a Crime Report in which an individual (other than yourself) was involved in
Copies of a crime report, for a crime in which you were involved
The usual means of applying for a copy of such a crime report is by making a Subject Access Request to the Data Protection Office, of Dorset Police. Please note that any Third Party details will be removed.
Crime Report including details of other parties involved
Can be obtained by a County Court order, in cases where other records and details of Third Parties are also sought.
All County Court Orders must be directed to the Force Disclosure Unit at Dorset Police.
Insurance Company, requesting a copy of a Crime Report
Any such requests for Crime Reports, made by Insurance Companies must be directed to the Civil Disclosure Unit of Dorset Police.
Information held concerning another individual's PNC convictions
Requesting PNC Conviction Information about you (the individual)
Information relating to your own PNC conviction information must be requested by way of a Subject Access Request, to the Data Protection Office at Dorset Police. On some occasions PNC conviction information about you (the individual) can also be obtained by a County Court order, in circumstances where other records are also required.

Requesting PNC Conviction Information about a Third Party Individual
This is available to the Probation Service only, and such enquiries must be directed to the Central Records Section at Dorset Police.

Copies of Statements provided to Dorset Police by an individual or third party, other than yourself
Requesting Copies of a Statement given by you (the individual)
Should you wish to obtain copies of a Statement given to Dorset Police, by you (the individual) then you must submit a Subject Access request to the Data Protection Office at Dorset Police. Alternatively on some occassions, copies of statements can be obtained by way of a court order, in circumstances where other police records are required.
Please be aware that the release of your statements under the Subject Access provisions, will only take place following the conclusion of any associated criminal proceedings.

Requesting Copies of a Statement given by Another Individual/Third Party
Copies of a Statement given to Dorset Police by anyone other than you (the individual) cannot be obtained in any circumstances other than via a County Court Order.

Information required for Social Services
As part of our Inter-agency Child Protection procedures, Non-Urgent requests from Social Services must be directed to the Force Disclosure unit.
Information relating to compensation claims; to people who have been physically or mentally injured because they were a blameless victim, of a violent crime
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA), is a government organisation that can provide compensation to individuals who have been injured (mentally or physically) because they were the blameless victim of a violent crime.
