Abuse, Exploitation & Neglect
The abuse, exploitation and neglect of anyone in our communities is unacceptable and Dorset Police is working with partners to stop those who commit such crimes.
Child Abuse & Neglect
Child abuse is where a child does not receive the proper standard of care expected from a reasonable parent or carer and includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse or neglect.
Child Sexual Exploitation
Child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a form of child abuse and is illegal. Children and young people who become involved face risks to their physical, emotional and psychological health and wellbeing. It is our aim that no child should have to suffer sexual exploitation.
Rape & Sexual Assault
It is an offence for either a man or a woman to rape a woman or a man. Dorset Police are committed to providing a comprehensive service to victims of sexual assaults.
Domestic abuse is defined as any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.
Stalking & Harassment
Harassment is behaviour intentionally carried out with the aim of causing a person to feel alarmed, threatened, humiliated or distressed. Stalking is different from harassment as it involves fixated and obsessive behaviour.
Honour Based Abuse, Forced Marriage FGM
Honour Based Abuse, Forced Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) are grave violations of human rights. If you are worried about the risk of abuse, threats of violence or forced marriage from family or community either towards yourself or another help is out there.
Hate crimes are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards the person’s disability, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender identity. This can be in the form of verbal abuse, physical assault, domestic abuse, harassment and damage to property.
Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery
With both modern slavery and human trafficking, men, women and children are forced into a situation through the use of violence (or threat of violence), deception or coercion.
Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP)
A dedicated team of officers work for the Dorset Police Public Protection Unit and are responsible for investigating incidents which fall under the umbrella of Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) as well as safeguarding vulnerable people in Dorset.
