Freedom of Information Act request number: 2022-024
Version date: 31/01/2022
The Performance & Analysis Department have provided the following information:
1) Total number of vans stolen in 2020
2) Total number of vans stolen in 2021
For Q1&2 there have been 86 recorded Van Thefts in 2020 and 96 recorded Van Thefts in 2021.
This data was obtained by filtering the Niche Crime Universe by the Theft of a Motor Vehicle category within the Main Crime Group field along with filtering the vehicle type field to *van* or *Goods Vehicle*.
3) Total number of offences involving tool theft in 2020 and the total value of the items stolen
4) Total number of offences involving tool theft in 2021 and the total value of the items stolen
For Q 3&4 we searched the Niche Crime Universe two ways.
Firstly we searched for all Theft/Dwelling Burglaries/Burglary Other where the word *tool* was listed in the occurrence summary and reviewed the results to remove any that didn’t relate to tool theft.
Secondly we searched Niche Crime for all occurrences that listed machinery or tools as the category within the property type field along with *stolen* as the property classification.
There have been 475 recorded occurrences in 2020 and 322 in 2021.
There is a field for recording property value but this is not always completed or known.
The recorded values of stolen items in 2020 was £208,074 and in 2021 was £114,976
