The Dorset Road Safety Department have provided the following information:
1. Between 1/4/2016 - 31/3/2019 how many fatal road collisions did your force investigate?
There have been 64 fatal injury collisions (collisions as defined by Department for Transport (DfT)) investigated during this time frame.
These figures include all fatal injury collisions reported to the police within 30 days of the occurrence. It does not include medical episodes, off-road collisions, confirmed suicides, or where the fatality occurred >30 days after the incident.
Please note there were a further 17 fatal injury collisions* (collisions not defined by DfT as a collision) investigated within this time frame.
*collisions involving a fatality reported to Dorset Police that do not satisfy the definition of a road traffic collision include medical episodes, off-road collisions etc. Please note these figures may not be fully comprehensive.
2. Of these, how many collisions involved the deceased and the driver/rider knowing each other?
We do not keep easily retrievable data to be able to provide figures for Q2
3. Between 1/4/2016 - 31/3/2019 how many drivers involved in fatal collisions were prosecuted (charged) with murder under the Homicide Act?
Using data from a previous request (2021-887) there were no homicide offences where cause of death as the result of a road collision
