Complaints of sexism and racism

The Professional Standards Department have provided the following information: 

We have searched for all allegations finalised in the periods in question that showed as having a case to answer/upheld/service provided was unacceptable or similar for the officers involved.

1. How many officers received any kind of disciplinary sanction in the (i) 2019/20 and (ii) 2020/21 year as a result of a complaint of (a) racism, or (b) sexism/misogyny?

In the period 2019/20, one officer received some form of sanction for a complaint which was upheld that included an allegation of racism and sexism.

In the period 2020/21, one officer received some form of sanction for a complaint which showed as the service provided was not acceptable that included an allegation of racism.

2. Please state what disciplinary action was imposed for each of the cases referenced in Question 1. 

In 2019/20, the sanction the officer received was management action.

In 2020/21, the sanction the officer received was learning from reflection.

3. In relation to all the incidents in Q.1 where specific racist or sexist/misogynistic words or phrases were used please (i) state what these words or phrases were and (ii) the specific disciplinary sanction imposed on the officer.

For both complaints there was no specific words or phrases used.

4. How many complaints of racism were made against your force by members of the public in (i) 2019/20 and (ii) 2020/21?

In 2019/20 there were 9 complaints made with an allegation of racism included. In 2020/21 there were 11 complaints made with an allegation of racism.
