Part one
• Total number of road offences recorded by your force in the past ten calendar years.
• Please supply data in a month-year format if possible.

The Performance Analysis Department has provided the following information:

As Traffic offences are non-notifiable, we have extracted arrest data from our Niche Custody database for this request.

We have extracted all arrests from the past 10 years that have an offence group of “Traffic” and from there split out the drink and drug driving offences using the following arrest codes.

Drink Arrest Codes

RT88007 - Drive MV when alcohol level above limit
RT 88326 - in orange book same as RT 88007
RT88008 - In charge of a MV-alcohol level above limit
RT88339 - Drive whilst unfit through drink
RT 88343 - in orange book same as RT 88339
RT 88347 in charge of a vehicle whist unfit through drink

Drug Arrest Codes

RT88340 - Drive a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs
RT 88344 - in orange book same as RT 88340
RT 88348 in charge of a vehicle whist unfit through drugs
RT88527 - Cause death by driving without due care / consideration while over prescribed limit- specified controlled drug
RT88583 - Cause death by driving without due care / consideration while unfit through drugs
RT88584 - Drive motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit
RT88585 - In charge of a motor vehicle with proportion of specified controlled drug above specified limit

We have not included ‘fail to provide a specimen’ in either drink or drug drive tallies.

Please note, some custody records have both a drink and drug driving offence linked to them, in these cases the record has been counted in both tallies.
