Tool Theft

The Performance Analysis Department have provided the following information.

Performance Analysis have searched the Niche Crime Universe for Thefts/Theft From Motor Vehicle with the keywords of “Tool” or “tools” in the occurrence summary. They then used the ‘SC description’, ‘occurrence summary’ and ‘location’ fields to determine the majority of the theft locations which the remainder being reviewed manually.

There are several occurrences where the theft location does not fall into one of the below categories (For example, sheds on allotment plots, road/street workers, and in one instance, a boat), these occurrences have been marked as “Other” in the raw data.

Attempted thefts have been removed, as well as false positives

1. The number of reported tool thefts, broken down by year (2020–2024 inclusive), for each of the following categories:
   o Tools stolen from vehicles
   o        Tools stolen from residential properties
   o        Tools stolen from construction sites

2. For the most recent 12-month period available (e.g. May 2024–April 2025), a monthly breakdown of the above categories.

3. If held, the annual outcomes for reported tool thefts (for each year from 2020 to 2024).
