The database shows the victim and suspect(s) for each occurrence but does NOT distinguish between racial and religious hate crime The figures provided for the victim and suspect details are therefore for racial and/or religious hate crime.

  3. Please state whether, in its response to questions 1-7, the police force has classified anti-Semitic offences as racial hate crimes, religious hate crimes, or both
    All antisemitic hate crime occurrences are recorded as ‘Religion or belief – Anti Jewish’ but some are additionally recorded as ‘racial’ in the database.

Duty to assist:
Unlike questions 1-7, question 9 does not ask for the disclosure of statistical data or information about specific offences. Instead, I am asking the police about what type of information it records, under the duty to assist:

  1. Please could the police force outline what level/type of the following details it records/holds within its information systems in relation to racial and religious hate crimes, and how easily retrievable that information is:
    a. Location of offences (for “offline” offences)
    Yes, we hold location data – towns, sections, postcodes, beatcodes.
  2. Outcomes of offences (convictions etc)
    We hold the latest stats class status, for example, charges but not convictions. Conviction data is held by the courts.
  3. Specific dates of offences
    Yes, we hold date, year, month, time.
  4. Details of offences (i.e. “what happened”)
    Yes, we hold OEL entry text or occurrence summaries subject to redactions to be made by the FOI team.
