Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FIN/24/2267
Version Date: 22/08/2024
The number of road traffic collisions involving e-scooters and e-bikes for the following periods:
July 26 2019 – July 26 2020
July 26 2020 – July 26 2021
July 26 2021 – July 26 2022
July 26 2022 – July 26 2023
July 26 2023 – July 26 2024
For each period, can you include the number of incidents that resulted in injuries, and the number that resulted in one or more deaths.
The Dorset Road Safe Department have provided the following information.
E-scooter stats have been taken from validated data in AccsMap, and therefore show injury collisions reported to the Police within 30 days of the occurrence, where one of the vehicles involved was marked as ‘other – electric scooter’ or similar. It does not include medical episodes, off-road collisions or confirmed suicides. All 2024 figures are subject to change. We only have data validated up to May 2024.

The e-cycle stats were a little harder to collate as these are not recorded separately in the current Stats20 forms. Therefore, the below results have been gathered from the department making a note when they spot e-cycles whilst validating collisions. This therefore may not be fully accurate, e.g. some may be missing or included where they would otherwise be removed from DfT data.
