Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FIN/24/1551
Version Date: 20/02/2024
The Central Ticket Office have provided the following information.
Please Note:
Dorset Police would not proceed with an offence unless evidence was robust for presentation at court.
Please could I have the following questions answered in relation to the average speed cameras on the A338 between Blackwater and Cooper Dean:
Since 2020, how many appeals to speeding offences have been submitted?
All challenges against the notice must be made in Court. Dorset Police do not hold date regarding these challenges and this question should be redirected to His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service.
Of those, how many appeals were upheld?
See answer above
Has there been any technical issues affecting both ways? When were they detected?
There was vandalism at the southbound site slightly moving the alignment of the camera between 7 November 2023 and 16 December 2023.
As a result, 884 offences were not proceeded with.
How many appeals were upheld in the aftermath of noticing a technical issue?
What were the consequences of the technical issue? (i.e how many mph did it add onto the recorded speed?)
As above, any offences detected subject to the technical issue would not be proceeded with, therefore no offences were challenged.
The vandalism and very slight movement of alignment of the camera did not place the recorded speed outside of the approved parameters i.e., the vandalism did not affect the recorded speed.
