The Professional Standards Department have provided the following information:

Data processing:

Searche conducted on all complaints recorded between the time periods requested that were in either the category ‘K – Breach of code A on stop and search’ (pre 2020 category) and ‘B1 – Stops, and stop search’ (2020 category onwards).

1. How many complaints you have received about stop and searches in the following time periods:

- 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018

1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020

1 August 2022 to 07 June 2023

2. A breakdown of the allegations made in each complaint.

Summary

That complainant was stopped due to appearance alone, being black with a large beard, wearing a hat.

Various issues regarding arrest for drug driving.

Complaint that officers are stopping complainant on a daily basis and are being rude.

Officers stopped complainant for contravening a red traffic light. Complains Officers didn't heed the C-19 two metre rule

Firearms officers searched complainant's vehicle. Reason being "it's because it's you and we know what you're about"

Complainant alleges 17 year old friend was placed in handcuffs without a reason being given and was searched without due care and respect

Complainant is concerned that 2 black people were arrested by police and that complainant was not aware of why the police stopped them and that both parties seemed to be in pain during the arrests.

Complainant stopped for speeding. Complains the whole process was 'dragged out' longer than it needed to be, given that complainant admitted and accepted they were speeding.

Officers stopped 12 year old child. Handcuffed them and searched for drugs. Believes there was no justification

Child issued with a FPN. Feels it is unreasonable that the addition of a tailpipe be deemed a good enough reason to place a penalty on a young person

Complainant stopped for a traffic offence. Unhappy officer did not keep to a safe distance and was not wearing a mask

Alleges officer conducted a person search on complainant's partner in a sexual way and without giving a caution

Alleges officer put complainant in handcuffs and searched without good reason

Concerned that officers had stopped and caused an examination of complainants child after had already been discharged from hospital with no concerns. Had been chased across a garage forecourt by police in the early hours of the morning.

Subjected to a breath test but wasn't explained why

Twelve year old child stopped and questions by police when walking home from a friends. Mother was not contacted.

Made a complaint that::

1 Procedure wasn’t followed correctly.

2 Wasn’t shown any evidence of Cannabis.

3 There wasn’t a clear admission of guilt.

4 Wasn’t advised of the consequences of signing the Caution.

5 Wasn’t given time to think about signing it.

Complaint about being stopped in a shared vehicle which presumes has a marker on it.

Complaint about stop/search. Solicitor questions motives.

Pulled over and accused of speeding then questioned as to if had been drinking. This is the third or fourth time has been pulled over whilst driving current vehicle. Never with previous vehicles.

Complains about inaccuracies of strip search

Stopped and searched in the street complainant lives in, felt unnecessary and unreasonable

Subject to an unnecessary, humiliating and degrading strip search. Forced to leave property with no explanation.

Complaint about officers who stopped young child and asked personal questions which frightened them.

Detained for no reason, and forced to consent to a search despite having no reason for being searched.

Feels was stopped and searched unlawfully, not given a reason for it

Feels been targeted by police due to clothing choices.

Complains of harassment by police as keeps being stopped on suspicion of driving without a valid licence.

Disputes driving whilst on mobile phone. Feels being targeted unlawfully.
