Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FIN/23/0983
Version Date: 06/09/2023
How many motorists have received driving bans or penalty points after being caught using a mobile phone at the wheel in the past five years?
Please could this information be broken down by year ie by 12 months periods between 2018 to 2023 in whichever way is most convenient (Jan-Dec or April to April if that’s how figures are collected)
The Central Ticket Office have provided the following information.
The figures relate to the issue of a Traffic Offence Report where the outcome is either Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty or the matter has been processed for court.
A Conditional Offer of a Fixed Penalty attracts a fine of £200 and 6 penalty points.
Where the outcome is ‘Court’ the request should be directed to His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service or the DVLA as Dorset Police do not keep figures of Court results or driving disqualifications.
