Dorset Police has a clear focus for our Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) resources based upon threat, risk, harm and vulnerability.  The operational principles for Safer Neighbourhood policing have been developed after listening to the people we serve and having learned from the most distressing incidents elsewhere in the country.

These Operational Principles are:

  • Prioritisation of the needs of the victim - putting the "Victim First"
  • Targeted and flexible deployment of officers based upon threat, risk, harm and vulnerability
  • Informed and focused community engagement and meetings.

Your Safer Neighbourhood officers will ensure that, as a top priority, they look after the people in your communities who are the victims of crime and anti-social behaviour.  We are ensuring that they, the victims, are listened to, understood, kept informed, protected and safe alongside the wider community.

If you have a local issue/priority that needs SNT involvement then please complete our online form and raise your issues by following this link >

Current Priorities

You are telling us that the following issues are a priority in your area:

PRIORITY

You are saying... There is anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the Cunningham Crescent area. This has risen recently and the peak times are weekday evenings between 5pm and 10pm and weekends between 5pm and midnight. A small group of young people have been reported damaging commercial buildings, including the Henry Brown Youth Centre, Sure Start and Cunningham Crescent parade of shops, as well as acting in an intimidating, noisy and abusive manner.

We are doing... Increased engagement activity with Youth Services, The Henry Brown Youth Centre and the council ASB team to identify those committing ASB. Those frequently causing ASB have been invited to sign an acceptable behaviour contract (ABC) whereby the young person agrees to a set of guidelines on how they should be acting whilst out in the public domain, for example “I will not commit anti-social behaviour within the Borough of Bournemouth”. Further action will be looked at for any person breaching their ABC.

You are saying... There is a spate of bin fires in Moore Avenue and Springwater Road including an attempted ignition at the Fernheath Pavilion changing facilities. The main times have been between 9pm and 1am.

We are doing... Increased high visibility patrols in the area during early evenings and conducted covert patrols through the nights. Notation and monitoring of people frequenting the area has been conducted to identify the offenders. Proactive arrests have been made through community intelligence gathering. We have also liaised with the Fire Service to offer educational advice in schools and within local youth amenities to show the dangers of lighting fires.

You are saying... There is an issue with nuisance motorbikes in the area. This is an ongoing problem that West Howe SNT is facing. Calls are often received daily and usually between 3pm and 10pm.

We are doing... Work to collate intelligence as to who is riding the bikes and what addresses or locations are being used to store them. Those caught riding in an anti-social manner are being issued Section 59 seizure notices with the potential of having their bikes taken from them. Bikes such as pit bikes or mini motos that are being ridden on the road are un-roadworthy and have no insurance and are therefore being seized.
