The Safer Poole Partnership is on the lookout for the
next worthy winner(s) of the John Jay Shield and is asking
residents to nominate a community safety champion for the
award.
Every autumn the Safer Poole Partnership presents
the John Jay Shield to an individual or team that has gone beyond
the call of duty to make their community a better or safer place.
Last year, the shield was awarded to the Bourne Valley Action Group
(BVAG) in recognition of the energy, passion and commitment of its
members.
To be considered for the award, nominees must
have contributed to at least one of the following between April
2011 and March 2012:
- Making Poole a safer place;
- Building a supportive community;
- Improving the lives of people at risk of offending or
re-offending;
- Supporting victims of crime;
- Helping prevent or detect crimes.
They can be either a volunteer or someone
employed to work in the community, provided they have gone above
and beyond what is expected of them in their role.
Tina Ridge, a Director for Dorset Probation
Trust and Chair of the Safer Poole Partnership, said: “There are so
many selfless people out there who do a fantastic job of making
their communities safer without looking for rewards. The John Jay
Shield is our way of saying thank you.
“If you know someone who has gone out of their
way to improve their community, I would urge you to nominate them
for the award.”
Councillor Judy Butt, Portfolio Holder for
Public Engagement and Participation, with direct responsibility for
Poole communities, Borough of Poole, said: “Every year we see large
numbers of dedicated, community-minded individuals put forward for
the John Jay Shield. They are a terrific credit to Poole and
between them they have made such a huge difference to our
communities.
“I look forward to seeing this year’s
nominations and I am certain that they will meet the high standards
set by previous nominees.”
