Officers in Gillingham are appealing
for witnesses and information after an elderly woman was
assaulted in the town.
The incident happened at around 3pm on Monday
2 July 2012 while the 70-year-old victim, from the Gillingham area,
walked along High Street.
She was approached by a group of teenagers who
were verbally abusive to her, with one then spitting in her
face.
Police Constable Mike Henstridge, of
Gillingham police, said: “This is a particularly nasty attack which
has understandably left an elderly woman scared to go back to the
town centre.
“The victim is unsure as to how many people
were part of the group that approached her, but she has given us
brief descriptions of the two main offenders.
“We have no doubt that there will be witnesses
to this callous attack as it occurred during a busy period on High
Street.
“We would urge anyone with any information to
come forward in confidence.”
The victim has described one of the offenders
as a white boy, aged around 16, and wearing a dark coat with the
hood up covering his face.
The second main offender is described as a
white girl, aged around 14 with dark hair, and wearing light
coloured trousers and glasses.
Witnesses and anyone with information
should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident
number 02:336. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous
