Witness appeal after collision in Bournemouth

Traffic officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a woman and a teenager were seriously injured following a road traffic collision in the Charminster area of the town.

The collision occurred at 3.50am on Sunday 18 March 2012 on Charminster Road, when a Ford Focus, driven by a 22-year-old Bournemouth man, travelling from Cemetery Junction toward Throop collided with two pedestrians.

One pedestrian, a 21-year-old woman, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and the other pedestrian, a 17-year-old boy, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Senior Investigating Officer, Police Sergeant Joe Pardey, said: “Following further enquiries I would like to talk to occupants from two specific vehicles that were near the scene but have not yet come forward.

“One of the vehicles is an older style BMW convertible which was behind the collision vehicle at Cemetery Junction. The other car is a dark coloured Peugeot which arrived at the scene behind the first police vehicle.

“Unfortunately, neither vehicle remained at the scene as they turned around and drove off.

“The occupants of these cars may be able to provide valuable information to the investigation and may not have realised what had happened in front of them.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police.”

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 22-year-old Bournemouth man, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Witnesses and anyone with any information should call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 18:66, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
