Woman assaulted in Weymouth - Witness appeal

Police in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a woman was assaulted in the town centre.

The incident, in which a man grabbed an 18-year-old woman around the neck and pushed her up against a wall, happened in an alleyway that runs parallel to Ranelagh Road in the Park District between 12.45am and 12.55am on Saturday, 3 July 2010.

Police Constable Jim Porritt, of Weymouth police, said: "The victim, from Weymouth, had been walking toward Brownlow Street at the time of this frightening attack.

"She kicked the offender and was able to run away."

The attacker is white, around 30 years old, approximately five feet eight inches tall and of a medium build. He had a brown goatee beard.

He was wearing white trainers and a blue hooded top.

PC Porritt continued: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this assault, and anyone with any information about the man responsible, to contact me as soon as possible.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a man running away from this area at around 12.45am on Saturday, 3 July 2010.

"All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence."

The victim was not injured as a result of the attack.
