Question 2

I am seeking figures referring to the arrest of people in Dorset for the crimes of heroin possession and possession of heroin with intent to supply.

I would like the most recent figures but also for the years 2007/08 and also for 2006/07 so the figures can be compared.

I don't know how you collate the figures but I am specifically after information on those arrested in the paper's coverage area - Weymouth and Portland, Dorchester, Blandford and Bridport/West Bay.

we unable to provide data relating to the number of arrests of heroin possession and possession of heroin with intent to supply, as they are not categories recorded on the Dorset Police Custody Database. We are however, able to supply details of arrests for possession for drugs other than Cannabis and possession with intent to supply for all drugs, including cannabis.

We are also able to supply data relating to the number of charges of Diamorphine - Possession of and Diamorphine - Possession of, with intent to supply and have included this information along with the arrest data.

Dorset Police do not use the term ‘Cannabis Factory’ when recording such offences, so we have supplied information relating to production and premises used for production

Question 4

On how many occasions in each of the last five years has a licensed or unlicensed taxi driver and private hire car driver been reported to your force for (a) sexual assault and (b) rape and how many were charged?

We are reliant on the correct completion of the occupation field for the validity of this information. Some drivers may have other jobs or give inaccurate occupation details. We are unable to distinguish between licensed and unlicensed drivers from our records. Please see the attachment document, which contains information pertinent to your request

Question 5

Could you please supply me information about the number of people arrested for cannabis possession and possession with intent to supply in Dorset. I would like figures for towns the towns of  Weymouth and Portland, Dorchester, Bridport and Blandford?

The data supplied is from the custody database for 2006/07 and 2007/08 for comparison. I have not included any other 2008 data as the force changed structure in  April 2008 and I can not provide comparable data with the previous years. Spreadsheet containing requested information.

Question 6

Between 2007 and 2008 how many under 17's has your force arrested and what sentences were given to them?

I am unable to  supply you with details of sentencing for the arrests that my analyst has identified. To provide you with this information would require a manual search of all relevant case files. Due to the amount of work that this would involve, the cost of providing you with the information is above the amount to which we are legally required to respond, i.e. the cost of locating and retrieving the information exceeds the ‘appropriate level’ as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.

How many people were arrested for soliciting prostitutes or kerb crawling by Dorset police in each month of 2008?

This  information can be found in the attached spreadsheet. I am unable to supply any information in respect of fines imposed or other resolutions. This information will be held by the courts and on the individual’s record not centrally retained in an easily retrievable format.

Question 8

How many rapes / claims of rape were reported to your force in the April 2007 to April 2008 period?

How many prosecutions ultimately ended in a conviction? (for accuracy - if possible - please do also state if any cases being taken to prosecution are yet to be disposed of).

On the date your request was submitted Twenty Three of the prosecutions had resulted in a conviction. Two of those prosecuted are still awaiting trial, and one result is unknown as the individual was charged by a different police force.

If applicable to your force…of the cases prosecuted.... how many had a Specially Trained Officer (STO) assigned from start to finish as recommended (recommendation 7 - p97) by the HMPCSI and HMCI Thematic report: Without Consent? Please state the percentage of successful prosecutions which had such an officer and the number of unsuccessful prosecutions which had such an officer ?

As part of Operation Opal Dorset Police has a dedicated team of Specially Trained Officers who have overseen and engaged in every rape and sexual assault investigation since September 2007.

Question 9

Please tell me how many persons were convicted for driving without insurance and in how many cases were their vehicles impounded in 2008?

Dorset Police formally charged 772 persons with driving without insurance for offences committed in 2008. In addition to this 883 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for driving without insurance during the same period.

Over the last 12 months 1720 cars have been impounded by Dorset Police for offences such as driving without insurance and driving without a valid licence. Unfortunately it is not possible to tell how many of these vehicles were impounded due to having no valid insurance.

Question 10

I would like to know how many children aged under 10 were questioned on suspicion of a crime in the last year?In each case I would like to know: The age and sex of the youngster; What was the alleged offence the child was questioned about?

The searches located the information in this spredsheet. This information was obtained from the crime recording system where the identified offender field was searched for those crimes where an offender had been identified and was under the age of 10. It is not possible to tell if all of these crimes identified where the offender was under the age of 10 resulted in the suspect being formally questioned.

 

Question 11

For the 2008 calendar year please could you provide me with a breakdown of the number of people aged 70 or above who have been charged by your force with a criminal offence or issued with a fixed penalty ticket?

In 2008 there were 24 individuals over the age of 70 charged with offences by Dorset Police details of the offences they were charged with, their age and sex can be found in this document.

 

In 2008 Dorset POlice issued 180 fixed penatly tickets to individuals over the age of 70. Details concerning the offences the tickets were issued for and the age and sex of the individuals can be found in this spreadsheet.>

How many penalty notices for disorder (PNDs) were issued by your force in the 07/08 financial year?

How many of the PNDs issued by your force in the 07/08 financial year were paid by the recipient within the 21-day deadline?

How many people who were issued with a PND in the 07/08 financial year were fingerprinted when the PND was issued?

224 people who were given a PND also had their fingerprints taken. 

Please not that this figure will also include any person who was taken into custody and fingerprinted before the decision was made to issue them with a PND.

Question 15

How many people in Dorset have outstanding arrest warrants against their name?

The number of outstanding warrants varies from day to day as live warrens are executed and new warrants are issued daily. The information supplied to you reflects the number of outstanding bench, breach and 1st instance warrants on 15th May.  All warrants issued by courts in Dorset are sent to Dorset Police.  However, this does not necessarily mean that the person lives in Dorset.  If the address information for the person indicates that they live outside Dorset ie within another force area, we ask that other force to execute the warrant for us.  Likewise, other forces ask us to execute warrants for them if the person appears to be in Dorset. The figures supplied to you do not include warrants which Dorset Police have sent to other forces to deal with, but do include any warrants sent to us from outside forces. 

On the 15th may 2009 there were 293 outstanding arrest warrants.

Can you give me a break-down for how many of these individuals are suspected for category A offences, how many for category B offences and how many category C outstanding arre.
