Safer Neighbourhood Public Meetings
Safer Neighbourhood Public Meetings are
regular meetings where members of the public, living or spending
time in the local area, can raise their issues and vote to
prioritise these issues for the Safer Neighbourhood Panel. The
Panel will then decide actions to address the priorities. The
actions could be taken by Panel members themselves, by Panel
members on behalf of their organisations or by Panel members with a
view to enlisting the help of others.
Safer Neighbourhood Surgeries
Safer Neighbourhood Surgeries provide the
community with the opportunity to talk to a Safer Neighbourhood
Panel member on a one-to-one basis about issues specific to their
area. They are open to anyone living or spending time in their area
and members of the public can come along at any time during the
given period to talk to local community safety service
providers.
Safer Neighbourhood Street Corner Meetings
Safer Neighbourhood Street Corner Meetings
provide the community with the opportunity to talk to community
safety service providers, close to home and on an informal basis,
about issues specific to their area.
Safer Neighbourhood Street Corner Meetings may
target residents living in a particular road/street in order to
find out their specific concerns or they may be set up to address a
particular issue which is of concern in the local area, such as
anti-social behaviour.
Some Safer Neighbourhood Street Corner
Meetings may be attended by the Community Support Vehicle which is
equipped with useful information on crime prevention and
neighbourhood safety.
Safer Neighbourhood Postcards
Some Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Safer
Neighbourhood Panels can be contacted using Safer Neighbourhood
Postcards. Postcards may be available from the teams themselves or
may be situated at key locations in the community (e.g. doctors’
surgeries, libraries and post offices). Members of the community
can record their issues and post them back either via Royal Mail or
Safer Neighbourhood community post boxes.
Safer Neighbourhood EVAs (Environmental Visual Audit)
A Safer Neighbourhood EVA is a visual scan, by a
team of partnership representatives, volunteers and local
residents, of a specific area within a neighbourhood in order to
record possible concerns. These may include graffiti, street
drinking, groups of youths, damaged property, areas of poor
lighting and litter.
An EVA may not only be useful
for community members wishing to raise issues but also in gathering
evidence to support the issues to be raised with the Safer
Neighbourhood Panel.
A Safer Neighbourhood EVA is also an opportunity
for Safer Neighbourhood representatives to consult residents on
signals which make them feel safe, such as CCTV camera, street lighting
and police presence.
